The sun returned to Ft Flagler today. While the day started out wet and foggy,it had cleared up nicely before morning sectionals were finished. The bandlings had instruction from the staff by section, did some marching practice out on the oarade grounds and even had a chance to practice as a group twice. our wonderful kitchen staf wowwed us with french toast, fried rice and tacos today with a quick and easy sundae after dinner.
Clearly the kids are starting to gel as a band. The music from the sections sounds phenomenal, the groups are getting larger and larger during free time, and today was a veritable sea of tie-dye.
The parents have been busy making sure everyone is taken care of, fed, hydrated, and kept safe. We had to say goodbye tonight to some truly wonderful parents who have been a mainstay of band camp for many years. Lori and Doug Smart are off to get their daughter ready to go to her college rookie camp in Arizona. And Julie Oshiro has finally done her last band camp. Without their leadership, infectious enthusiasm and dedication to the band program, there are many parents who would not be involved today. THANK YOU JULIE DOUG AND LORI!!!!!!!
A special thanks must also go out to Jeffrey Field and Eric Sundby. Eric came up to help get the scaffolding and field set up. And Jeffrey came up to pass down the kitchen to the Cunninghams. The need to thank them? They don't have kids in Show band anymore! Thank you Eric and Jeffrey!
It's off to unity games now! Keep an eye out for your student.
