Awards Banquet
Please join us at the 2nd Annual Show Band and Colorguard Awards Banquet on Monday, November 9th, 2009 at 6:30pm. Cake, coffee, and cocoa will be provided.
All remaining photo buttons will be available at the banquet. All pop-up tents that were loaned during the Show Band season will be available to be picked up too. Thank you!

• Videos – Northwest Audio Visual Productions filmed the prelim and final performance of the bands* and has videos available for sale. Two packages are available: Individual School (including prelim and finals performances)for $22 or Full Day (including prelim and finals performances for all schools*) for $42. These can be ordered online at www.nwavp.com. Delivery takes approximately 2-3 weeks.

Uniform Cleaning
REMINDER to take your pants and jacket into Speedway Cleaners by Starbucks (by Walgreens) to get them cleaned. Gently remove the baldric (sash) before taking it in.

Sitting up in the stands, we received many comments that Kamiak was 2nd best (to their own band, of course). They loved your show. You certainly made us proud.

Victoria in May
I know this is still far away, but wanted to send out a reminder that passports and/or enhanced driver's licenses (with certified birth certificates) are required to travel to and from Canada. If your student doesn't have one yet, now would be a great time to start the process. Depending upon the time of year you apply and where you go, it can take a bit of time to get the passport back.

Winterline
I wanted to make one correction – there will actually be 3 competitions during the Winterline season. Auditions start Tuesday, November 17th at 5:30pm.

Kamiak High School

Kamiak High School was opened in Mukilteo, Washington, United States, in September 1993. The school was built to handle overflow population from the overcrowded Mariner High School, which at the time was the only high school serving the Mukilteo School District.

After a dispute between district communities over which would provide Kamiak its student population, the Junior class at Mariner High School voted to remain at the school for their Senior year, leaving the then Sophomore class to open Kamiak High School as Juniors. Kamiak had no Senior class during its debut year. 1993 and the opening of Kamiak also marked a change in class distribution in theMukilteo School District, with Freshman classes attending Kamiak and Mariner. Previously the Freshman classes attended the District'sJunior High School.

The first graduating class from Kamiak (the class of 1995) chose its colors - purple, silver, and white - along with its mascot, a knight.

Kamiak High School was named in honor of Chief Kamiakin.

Facilities

Kamiak hosts over 40 classrooms, a physical education complex with two separate gymnasiums and a weight room, a half-Olympic sized swimming pool complex, a Performing ArtsCenter, six tennis courts, a softball field, baseball field, soccer field, football field, track facilities, and the school's East Campus, which houses science and math rooms as well as the "Multi-Purpose Room," which is modeled as a third gymnasium and used as a secondary cafeteria.

Special Events

At its completion, Kamiak High School had cost $54 million dollars, making it the most expensive^{[citation needed]} public secondary school that had been built at the time. Kamiak had an additional $8 million expansion in 1999.

Kamiak's Band Program

In 2002, the Kamiak Show Band performed for over 25 million viewers in the 2002 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band also marched in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, Irelandin 2000. 2005-2006 New Years, the Kamiak Show Band performed in Paris, France. The Kamiak Show Band is the school's 200 person marching band which competes across the Northwest each Fall. The Kamiak Show Band has won sweepstakes awards awards at Northwest marching competitions in 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2009, the Kamiak Show Band traveled to Washington D.C. to perform in the National Cherry Blossom Festival as well as on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial.

Kamiak's Orchestra Program

The Kamiak Orchestra program includes three main orchestras (Intermediate, Philharmonic Strings I and Philharmonic Strings II) under the direction of conductor Brian Steves. The school is also home to a chamber group called the Kamiak Uber Kammerstreich (or Kamiak Super Chamberstrings) consisting of 15 players from Philharmonic Strings I.

Kamiak Drama Program

In August 2002, a group of Kamiak High School Drama students performed an adaptation of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at the annual International Fringe Festival held inEdinburgh, Scotland. The show received 4 out of 5 stars for their performance.^{[citation needed]} Kamiak was one of 25 American schools selected to perform at the festival and only one of two to be located west of the Mississippi River. In June 2005, the Kamiak Spring Musical Pirates of Penzance, by Gilbert and Sullivan, was pronounced the "Best Musical Show" in the entire state of Washington by Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Kamiak has also had several students place at the Washington Music Educator's Association State competition. In 2009, they end their Drama season with the musical [Into the Woods], starring Bryce Hayden Henry, Natalie Forde, Kaela Strieck, Kyle Bolme, Sabrina Otness, Jesslyn Lulu-Marie Freeman, Galen Dole, and Rory Eaden.

Kamiak Knowledge Bowl

The "Golden Horde," a team consisting of four seniors and two juniors, won a narrow 1st Place against Curtis High School at the 2008 Washington State Tournament, after placing 6th place the previous year.

In the 2008-09 season, Kamiak Knowledge Bowl swept the district playoffs, with all three state-qualifying slots filled by Kamiak teams. The two remaining members of the Golden Horde successfully led a new team, Mao's Dragons, to win the state 4A title for the second year in a row.

The legacy of Kamiak Knowledge Bowl dates back to 2005, where the premier team known as the Robster Craws placed first in the 4A Division at the Anacortes High School Competition. Since then, the five members of the Robster Craws have founded the Robster Craw Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that rewards a Kamiak Senior in Knowledge Bowl with a prestigious cash scholarship each June.

Kamiak Dulcineas Dance Team

The Kamiak Dulcineas Dance Team consists of students in freshman through senior year. Various activities include performing at football and basketball halftimes, competing in competitions, District and State Championships, as well as various parades and festivals. [1]

Kamiak Colorguard & Winterguard

The Kamiak Colorguard and Winterguard consists of students in freshman through senior year. Various activities include performing at football halftimes, competing in competitions as a part of the Show Band, NWPA Circuit shows and Championships, WGI Regionals, as well as various parades and festivals.

The Kamiak Colorguard has taken High Auxiliary at several NW Marching Band Competitions as a part of the award winning Kamiak Show Band. The Kamiak Winterguard has been the State NWPA Scholastic A Class Champions 3 times in a row from 2006 to 2008. ^[1] In 2008 they competed at the WGI West Regional in Hayward, CA. They placed 7th overall out of 24 Scholastic A Class Winterguards and moved onto the finals round of competition. In 2009 they competed at the WGI NW Regional in Vancouver, WA and ended up placing 3rd out of 19 Scholastic A Class Winterguards.^[2]

This award winning ensemble is currently growing to be one of the premier scholastic colorguards in the NW. The Director is Jonathon Brown. The staff includes Marie Caryl, Matt Passino, and Amy Sciuto^[3]

Notable alumni

Marko Liias, Class of 1999, served on the Mukilteo City Council from 2006-2008, and currently serves as State Representative for the 21st Legislative District which includes Kamiak High School. In the 2008 general election, at the age of 27, Liias was reelected receiving 64% of the votes cast.

Thomas Erak, Class of 2004, and Andrew Forsman, Class of 2005, are members of The Fall of Troy, a progressive rock band which produced a single for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, titled F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. – although so far this acronym’s meaning has been shrouded in secrecy. Tim Ward, the band’s former bassist, has been replaced by a non-Kamiak alumnus.

Mason Cobb, Class of 2008, Professional Halo 3, and formerly Halo 2 Major League Gamer. Been in tournaments since 2005. He is also known as Mason "Neighbor" Cobb.

Kamiak High School is part of the Wesco South District and with having well over 2000 students, Kamiak is a 4A school. Their main rival in athletics is Mariner High School, the other high school in the Mukilteo School District. Kamiak High School traditionally does very well in athletics and yearly makes state appearance.
